Cowboy boots

Weelll, he’s not Ronald Reagan, that’s for sure. You have to check out the President’s feet in this family photograph, taken on the occasion of his parents’ 60th wedding anniversary. In January 2005. Just click on the picture to get a really big one.

That silvery decoration peeking out from under his pant legs is the Presidential Seal. And that’s fine. Other presidents have worn such decorative cowboy boots...Ike, Nixon, Ford, George H.W, and even Clinton had a pair with the Prez seal. But I just can’t help thinking this Prez looks positively dorky. Even Reagan’s dorkiest shots didn’t look this silly. Dubya reminds me of Pee Wee Herman in this picture.

This image is also found at the White House site with all the people named, in case you’re curious. I don’t know where the really large photo originated, but I found a copy of it at Steve Gilliard’s blog.

The fellow responsible for these boots is Rocky Carroll, the unofficial boot maker for the last 6 presidents. Here are a couple of interesting articles about him. #1, #2.
