Cider Press Hill

We're having weather

We’re having weather today. It’s not very inviting out there with a steady rain falling and thick clouds in the sky. We’re getting spoiled because the weather has been drier and sunnier than usual for the past two months. Kind of like the first year I moved to this town when there was so much sunshine I could hardly get over it. Coming from Syracuse, it was almost shocking. Back there we routinely had weeks at a stretch with no sunshine. In fact, we only averaged 52 days of sunshine per year. That’s lake effect weather for you. A couple of years after I moved here, it seemed as if the weather patterns changed to mostly cloudy (or rainy) most of the time. Turns out that I moved here during a strong el niño year. This is another el niño year and the weather has, generally, been quite nice. And autumn and early winter have been warmer than usual, too.

I might have to start a fire in the stove later today, but no rush, really. I haven’t had a fire in the stove for a few days and the furnace hasn’t gone on more than a couple of times, either. With the temps ranging between the upper 40s to mid 50s—and lots of sunshine—the past few days, the house has retained heat. It’s starting to cool down today, though, and by evening there will be a nip the air. But, by the end of the week, we’ll be back up into the mid 60s. Tell me that’s not odd for the first of December in the northeast!
