I hope I don’t sound like Scrooge, but my first thought was that, these must have been made in El Salvador or Viet Nam if they have that high quality and cheap price. I’ve become a cynic, sadly.
dk, I think it’s the “what the market will bear” principle. My glass supplier, who does commission work full time, ruefully stated that stained glass is both a blessing and a curse. He’ll never become a rich man doing it because it he was truly paid for his time, no one would be able to afford his work. And he is a true artist who makes exquisite pieces. I’d say that he isn’t financially hurting, of course, but when you think about an intricate window that takes 11 months to complete and goes for $18,000, that doesn’t really reflect a high hourly wage. It’s more a labor of love, I think.
