can we blame all this on Healey, Romney, Bush and all the rest of the Republicans?????????? ;)
The confidentiality part can’t be blamed on the Republicans, unfortunately. The HIPAA stuff is all at Clinton’s doorstep, although it was a Republican congress that passed it.
The bureaucratic mess is par for the course in America these days.
I am sure that there were good reasons that started this whole confidentiality law thing, but they didn’t think it through thoroughly enough. This has been an ongoing annoyance for several years, but Massachusetts (state legislature is populated with Democrats) passed something a couple of years ago that was supposed to provide even more protections for whomever the law was supposed to protect and now it’s positively ridiculous. I’m sure it has to be costing the doctors’ offices a lot of money just because the simple paying of a bill has become such a snarled up process and they have to hire collections people to deal with what shouldn’t have to be dealt with. And they are ineffective because their hands are legally tied, too.
These people can be awful. From a slightly different angle - I lost a child some years back, and the different doctors offices and insurance companies kept calling our house and asking for him. I guess they just wanted to make sure I wasn’t lying. How hurtful.
Oh Cassie. That sort of thing crosses all kinds of boundaries. That was just plain cruel. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.
Heh. The Dad got to thinking about it today and said he’s going to call the doctor’s office tomorrow and bring some joy into their lives. Actually, I suspect there won’t be much joy involved. But, at least they’ll talk to him.

You can get humiliated in the office when they yell out in front of every one in the waiting room that you STILL have a unpaid balance and it NEEDS to be paid REAL soon, that’s what LOL. Been there.
