Red Leaf

Last night was stained glass class. It was also Halloween and I debated about going to class. I’ve never missed a Halloween night yet and I love handing out candy to the little kids. But, I decided to go. There are only 3 classes left after last night and I have to pick the teachers brain *a lot* before it ends. I didn’t work on my latest project at all last week and I needed to finish it so I can start on something a whole lot more challenging for the remaining three weeks.

Turn out was low last night—both for trick or treaters and class attendees. My neighbor told me this morning that only FIVE children showed up for trick or treating this year. I think our society has managed to scare parents to death and they’re making other arrangements for Halloween. It’s a shame. But I’m glad I went to class because the four of us who showed up had plenty of one on one time with the teacher. I learned some neat new tricks.

This is my finished second project. Just a simple autumn maple leaf in a deep red glass. Everything turned out evenly and the soldering was a little smoother this time, too. Funny thing, we have to work hard and practice at making our soldering as smooth as glass so that we can turn around later and make it bumpy and irregular by choice (rather than by accident)—soldering techniques can be an important element of design.

I took this picture with a flash. It shows the bright copper patina and a little of the airplane contrail through the glass.

This pic is without flash and none of the copper coloring shows, but the the color of the red is more true.
