Truly, I just don’t remember. I couldn’t begin to tell you what lamb tastes like and the more I think about it the more I think that’s crazy. Having eaten my share of Ethiopian and Greek food over the years, I know there must have been some lamb in there someplace. My taste buds draw a total blank on it, though.
If you’ve had authentic gyros, you’ve had lamb. We dearly love lamb loin chops (gotta be loin; the shoulder and arm chops aren’t meaty enough for our tastes) and roasted leg of lamb (the latter with roasted in-the-pan potatoes).
I had a genuine gyro in New York once, a long time ago. Never cooked any lamb myself, though. Sounds like I oughta.
lamb, my absolute favorite and it needs to be on the pink side!! Love it. It was always the choice of dinner for both my sons when their birthdays rolled around (still is) and nothing compares to lamb shish-ka-bobs!! And, you cannot have roasted leg of lamb without mint jelly on the side........don’t ask cause I don’t know why, but won’t go without it!! My cousin makes a shephard’s pie with ground lamb that is to die for...... Should I go on? Nah, you get the idea!! Just wish it weren’t so expensive!
I will have to take everyone’s word for the divine-ness of lamb. We ended up having cornish hens and black eyed peas (startlingly delicious—a first for me) tonight instead. My friend’s spirit is willing, but her energy seriously flagged yesterday after a long bout with the physical therapist. The lamb stew seemed a rather larger task than she’d remembered. The hens, fortunately, only require being shoved into the oven. I brought the wine and it all turned out to be delicious and a lot of fun.

When I came to the east coast for a visit several years ago, we went to my favorite sub shop. I can’t remeber if you tried my favorite or not, I think you did? If so, you had lamb! Yum, my favorite red meat! When I make lamb stew I just don’t tell anyone in the house lol. They always comment that I put something different in it but, I never tell! E is not a big fan of it so I don’t get to cook with it often.
