New things

My friend with the brand new hip is now home and climbing the walls. She is still severely limited in what she is allowed to do. She is only allowed up and down the stairs twice a day, no walking outside further than the end of the driveway and back. And NO driving for eight weeks. That also means no grocery shopping. I told her I’d be happy to shop for her, so, on Monday evening, I took her list and mine to the grocery store. It’s always interesting to see what other people buy. It’s a different perspective and it also took me quite a lot of extra time to hunt down some items that I never buy and don’t exactly know where they’re located in the store. Between her groceries and mine, it must have looked like I was feeding a family of six.

This was the first time in my entire life that I bought two pounds (or any pounds) of lamb. But it also looks as if I’ll be tasting it, too. As part of her thanks, she’s making up lamb stew and I’m invited to dinner tonight. It’s kind of odd that I’ve gone this far through life without ever eating any. Or maybe I have and just don’t remember it. New taste treat coming up, anyway.

One of the other items she had on her list was Folgers Coffee Singles. They are like tea bags, only with ground coffee in them. Just plop one in a cup with boiling water and you have a cup of coffee in just a minute or two. That looked appealing for that first cup in the morning while I’m waiting...and waiting...and waiting for my coffee maker to brew a pot. So I bought some, too. Turned out to be a pretty good idea. They make a decent cup of coffee and when we’re talking about that first cup in the morning, there’s nothing like near instant gratification.

Oh yeah, stained glass class last night. I started a new project—just a small one. No pictures this time. Maybe when I’m finished. This is just too much fun.
