Same piece, front side. In the top shot I was looking up at it with the bright light of the sky behind it. With some flash reflection bouncing off it. The peach colored glass is almost red on the back so when the light shines directly through it, the glass has a darker and redder cast. In the second shot I stood a little over it with the ground as the backdrop. And it was a little later with a big old cloud out there. The red wasn’t shining through. Stained glass is interesting for how it reacts to light. The same piece can have a dozen different looks depending on the light.
This one is just an inside little piece that I don’t quite know what to do with yet. And thank you. It does look kind of pretty dangling in the window.
Anyhow...now you guys won’t have to look at any more pictures of it.
It came out really nice!
Thanks, J and Kim. Very much. I have it hanging from the kitchen ceiling for the moment. It makes me grin every time I look at it.
After I finished this, the teacher said I will be ready to embark on the Prairie style lampshade after about one more small project. I asked her how to make sure all the angles in a shade match. She said, “Oh, we get out our protractors.”
Eeek! That’s geometry right? My worst class evah! For anyone who wonders if we ever use the math we learned in high school, there’s an answer for you. I vaguely remember seeing a protractor about 30 years ago. That could be a challenge.
J- do you want to go see the glass shop this weekend? I have to go pick up some glass for a couple of small projects.
C’mon. The protractor just helps measure angles. It’s not bad, it’s just drawn bad (apologies to Jessica of Roger Rabbit).
Well, there’s another movie I’ve never seen.
I asked the teacher what happens when the angles aren’t quite right, knowing, of course, that it would lead to a lopsided affair. She said, “It will have that homemade charm.” That made me laugh right out loud. Yeah, I can see some homemade charm in my future.
Rent it. Aside from the innovation of mixing animation with live characters, it’s a hilarious movie. Jessica is Roger’s love, and she’s the most voluptuous rabbit you’ll likely ever see. But, like an ingenue, she says “I’m not bad; they just draw me bad.”
Oh, and as to homemade charm: Cosby had a line once about a failing project in shop class where the solution was “put two grooves in it and call it an ash tray.”
I’ll add it to my list of must-sees. I think maybe Netflix is in my future, too. I just cancelled HBO because I very rarely watch it (the lad did). So seems to me Netflix would be a better deal for me. Less expensive than HBO and LOTS less expensive than regular video store late fees.
Sure, I’m game! E is working both days this weekend. Give me a call and let me know what day!
lovely, absolutely lovely. You done good, girl!! I am going to ask my friends in Hawaii to send me a picture of the one they did--it is on their back door and glorious, it is big!! There is a story as to where some or all of the glass came from too, but do you think I can remember it? Nope!! Will ask when I ask for the picture I can send you!!

"Stained glass class”
Try saying that five times fast.
Is this one work, each side? If so, how come the colors are so different from one another on the opposite side?
Looks nice, too. Wind chime use?
