People's Design Award

The Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York is holding its first annual People’s Design Award and voting is open until 6:00 p.m. EST on October 16. Take a wander over to their website and vote if you’d like. Or just view the nominations. It’s fun to see what people think constitutes good design. I’m not sure I agree with the top nominees at the moment, but the reasoning behind the nominations is interesting and worthy of note.

Next week is National Design Week at the Cooper-Hewitt. If you’re in or near New York City, it would be an ideal time to check the place out—the museum will waive admission fees from October 15 through the 21st. Wish I lived closer.

The blurb on Cooper-Hewitt’s About page says:

What constitutes good design? Is it beauty? Is it function? Every year, Cooper-Hewitt gives out design awards chose by a jury of distinguished design gurus—but do you agree with the experts?

Now you can make your design voice heard by voting for the first-ever People’s Design Award. Whether it’s handmade or mass produced, high end or low brow, if it’s an example of good design, we want to know about it! On this site, you can browse and search for designs that have already been submitted or nominate something new....check back on this site on October 18 at 10:00 p.m. EST to see the winner announced live at the National Design Awards gala in New York City.
