I do not like mice. My dog does not like mice. My mother does not like mice. Any mouse or rat which gets into this house is risking death by gluetrap or the ravening jaws of a 13-year-old pointer.
As long as they’re not wolf spiders, I can tolerate those creepy crawlies.
Alas, they say that you only have spiders if you have the food they like to eat: other bugs.
Well, I’m not crazy about mice in my house, either, but they will always find a way in when cold weather comes. When Stinky was with us, we didn’t have to think about mice, unless he brought one to me for the appropriate praise and appreciation. Abbie doesn’t do mice. She looks at them and then walks away. When faced with having to destroy one, though...I can’t do it.
Linkmeister, I’d imagine that your spiders must be, on the whole, a lot larger than the ones we have up here where they don’t get a chance to ever get very big. Fortunately, I like wolf spiders, so they don’t scare me at all. But any other variety larger than a quarter gives me serious pause. Larger than a half dollar and I’d be shrieking. It took many years to get over my terror of spiders...the smaller ones, anyway. I don’t think I’d do well in a warm climate.
Pablo, you are probably correct. I’ve also heard that spiders are a sign of a healthy house.
I’ve had an ongoing problem with Indian Meal Moths for the last couple of years and between the spiders and me, we’ve managed to nearly eradicate them. I’m grateful for their hard work and appetites.
J ... Really, they don’t want to bother you. They just want to live their little spider lives in peace. They’d rather avoid a confrontation. I know that doesn’t help much, does it? ;)
Nope!
