Cold calls from the DNC
Being a registered Democrat, my phone has started ringing with pleas for money to “help the Democrats regain control of the House and Senate.” I realize that raising funds is an important part of a campaign season. Obviously. Today a representative of the DNC called. My first complaint is the immediate notification that our call was being recorded. “Why is our conversation being recorded?” I asked. “For quality control and verification purposes,” my caller responded. “I’d prefer that our conversation was not recorded,” I said. “I’m sorry, but I have no control over that,” he said.
Okayfine, that makes my decision easy.
I would also be so delighted if the next person who called would sound as if s/he *didn’t* have a mouth full of marbles and who *sounded* as if s/he really cared. Manning the phone banks isn’t the easiest job nor, probably, the most rewarding, but weasling money out of people requires *some* personality and dedication to the cause.
In any case, I tell my callers that I do my contributing online and that always disappoints them. I reminded my caller today that my online contributions are still going for the cause and he should be happy about that. He agreed, but still wondered if I’d like to contribute through him. No, I said. His response? Click.
I think someone needs to look into this phone bank project and do some work on it. I’m not impressed.
