LOL! He’s an acquired taste, Volkher. It took me a few years to learn how to appreciate him and his artistry. But oh I do love Bob Dylan.
Here’s a question. What is your feeling on Bill Monroe? I believe he’s also an acquired taste, one I’ve failed at miserably. Sounds like a cat in heat to me. That’s blasphemy in many quarters.
Dylan? Danceable?
Oh, c’mon. Is this captcha thingie context-sensitive? The word is “Yarrow,” which surely aludes to Peter, which leads to Peter Paul & Mary, who sang a whole lot of Dylan songs. Circularity!
Yep, danceable. His band on this album is toe tappin’ sweet. I’ve listened to it about 8 times in the last two days and it gets better with every listening.
And speaking of good music...listening to Radio Paradise today and they just had Richard Shindell and Bob Dylan back to back. What unexpected riches!
Yarrow....is also an herb. Very pretty one, too.
Ahhhh Dylan--brings back lots and lots of memories--some good, a few great and a couple not so. When I was just out of college, I shared an apartment with 2 or 3 or more (depending on the day of the week) on Beacon Street in Boston--a basement apartment that did not have bars on the windows facing the street as most do now...oh wait, I digress, that’s a story (lots of stories for another day...LOL). Anyway, one of my roommates was a nymphomaniac--oops, there I go again....and a HUGE Dylan fan--we woke in the morning to him and went to sleep at night listening to him, she played his albums 24/7....at the end of that year, I swore I would never ever be able to listen to him again--and didn’t until a couple of years ago. Yes, he is an acquired taste and while I will never enjoy him the way I do other artists, I can tolerate him again--actually more than tolerate--but it took an awfully long time......
Acquired taste? Let’s see. I’ve tried just about every album, I respect his influence on American music and music in general (not doing so would be absolutely foolish) and I’ve read tons about him ... I’ve given him a chance again and again.
I just can’t get used to that voice. This happens to me with many singers/songwriters other people just love, but I can’t help it. Once things sound too nasal, off-key or plain weird, I’m outta there.
Maybe when I’m 50?
I mean, it took me several decades to just like “A Love Supreme” by John Coltrane, and today I love it, so all things are not lost for Bob.
I’m a persistent taker-outer-of-Dylan-CDs, so there’s hope.
Bill Monroe.
Err.
Uhm.
Yikes.
I’d rather golf, to be perfectly honest.
You’re breakin’ my heart, you guys.
Jeez, Cyn. I really do need a cuppa. Just read kleptomaniac instead of nympho. Took a couple of minutes for it to dawn on me. Those must have been some interesting times!
So, Volkher...do you like to play golf??? On the scale of 1-10, where does golf vs Dylan fit in? Bill Monroe comes in at about a 1 for me. Golf...maybe about a 3. So yeah, I guess I’d rather play golf, too.
I just looked (it’s very convenient to have one’s music collection online, I must say). I have eight Dylan albums, but none more recent than Blood on the Tracks. ‘Bout time to try out the newer stuff, I guess.
anyone like Bob Seeger(??) I loved him, still like his music and saw him on some show last night, he has a new cd, will be released Sept. 12. Sounds good to me....and btw, I listened to the whole Dylan cd online yesterday and it really was toe tapping, I could understand what he was singing and thoroughly enjoyed. Will be getting it soon!! Thanks for the link!
Linkmeister...where do you have your CD collection online? That’s a good idea. Pretty soon we can have our entire collections of everythng archived online for convenient recall when we’re out and about.
That was my first impression, too, Cyn. I can understand every word he sings. That’s somewhat unusual for Dylan. ;) Glad you like the album. It really is good.
And yes, I have always loved Bob Seger!
Mine’s here. It’s home-built, not one of the commercial (or “free, ad-based") sites; the only problem with that is that I have to update it via Excel spreadsheet additions and HTML conversions.
Linkmeister, I’m beginning to think that you are an extremely organized person. These are tools and ideas that would definitely be useful, although I’m not entirely proficient with Excel. Even so, just a basic html list would still be online and available when out and about. I like your collection of albums. They do take me back. But...where’s Alabama?!
Ha! I’m anything but organized! I’m a lapsed programmer, though, and so I was experimenting when I built my site. “How do I do this?” was the question I kept asking myself.
As you know well, I am decidedly in the pro-Bob camp.
Haven’t listened to the new one yet, though your recommendation does make me likely to get it sooner than later. But just yesterday I plunked down a hefty sum for tix to his October 13 show here in Seattle. Key Arena this time ... his last time through, he played at amuch more “concert"-like venue, making it the first time I’ve ever seen him in a non-arena setting. The place didn’t have the greatest acoustics, but they were much better than any arena.

Bob Dylan sounds like my vacuum cleaner.
I’m not a fan.
Sorry.
You may strike me off your buddy list now. ;)
