He should just make it official and call himself a Republican. He has far more support from them than he does from his own party. He says he wants to give Republicans a chance to vote for him in the general election. So go for it, Joe. Change your party affiliation officially. You’re just a DINO anyway. And not even that, very convincingly. He ran a thoroughly Republican campaign. Did I mention that I loathe him?
I don’t think he’s a Democrat anymore so why would he listen to anyone in the party? He says he’s not going to. I hope Harry Reid strips him of every committee assignment he has.
I want to slap Bill Clinton and Barbara Boxer, too. How dumb did they have to be to believe Joe would do the honorable thing? No...let me amend that. How dumb did they have to be to believe that Joe Lieberman is honorable?
An an Independent Nutmegger who has actually voted for Lieberman in the past, I think he’s going to have a tough go of it.
- No national Dem is going to support him publically. (Notice how Sen Dodd was not among the podium guests last night)
- He’ll come under INTENSE pressure to withdraw
- His money will dry up
- Eventually, if not already, the electorate will view him as a sore loser and no one likes a sore loser.
- the “I’m doing this for America” is so cynical and transparent. We all know that he’s doing it for himself. That will hurt him in the long run.
Fear not, my pinko friends, you’ll have a “real Democrat” in the Senate next November.
Kate, there’s a satiny looking flower next to my name. It concerns me…
My dear Steve, do you recall what happened the last time you complained about the pretty flower next to your name? Now, you don’t want that to happen again, do you?
Back in the day, I liked Lieberman. I don’t know whether he’s changed a lot or I have. But he surely doesn’t seem like the same man he used to be.
I think Senator Dodd has been gifted with the task of talking Lieberman down. Wouldn’t want to be in his boots. I hope he’s successful, but I wouldn’t put money on it. Depends on how crazy Lieberman really is these days and how many deep pockets want him to stay in Congress.
A little while ago I walked past the TV and stopped to see what was happening in the world. Tony Snow (wearing a fluorescent orange tie for heaven’s sake) was giving a press briefing and, of course, Senator Lieberman was the topic of conversation. According to Snow, the White House is staying out of the fight and will leave it up to the voters in Connecticut (I thought they spoke last night), but he did wax rather poetic about what a standup guy Lieberman is. He took his pot shots at Lamont, too. They clearly favor Lieberman, but the message seemed to be that they aren’t lifting a finger to help him. That must sting Lieberman a little bit. Time will tell.
The press is trying to paint Lamont as a far left looney, but he just doesn’t come off that way in his interviews and speeches. I think he’s probably pretty middle of the road, maybe leaning a tinge left of the dot in the center of the center. Connecticut certainly doesn’t strike me as a hot bed of Marxists.
Right now I’d be thrilled with someone slightly to the right of the dot in the center of the center as long as that person wasn’t a neocon sympathizer. We need to root out the neocons. I realize how bad it has gotten when Pat Buchanan sounds like a font of wisdom whenever he opens his mouth.
Yes, ma’am, I remember what you did the last time I complained. It was among the cruelest experiences of my life.
He did change. He became the self-anointed “conscience of the Senate”, he got a little too big for his britches after the VP run and I think people resented that. He seemed out of touch; unable to name the CT House Majority Leader. (He is, btw, Chris Donovan and he introduced Ned Lamont last night...)
More importantly, he doesn’t get the “Iraq thing”. It’s not “the right war with the wrong tactics” - it’s the WRONG WAR. Period.
If he thinks Connecticut voters are going to embrace the wisdom of invading Iraq then Mr. Lamont can start picking out the drapes for his Senate office because even registered Republicans are bailing out on that line.
After hearing that concession speech, I muttered (well, no; I growled). “What part of democracy does he not understand? You face the voters. They decide.”
It’s all about me with Joe Lieberman.
Joe is that anomaly called a Neocon Democrat. He will never get the Iraq thing. I don’t believe he has the tiniest doubt in his mind that it was the right thing to do. And he probably won’t. Ever. The only problem in his mind is that it’s someone elses fault for not fighting hard enough. This is non-negotiable with him. In his CNN interview this morning he plainly indicated that it was the fringe who voted for Ned Lamont and they aren’t truly representative of the good people in Connecticut...therefore he is forced to run as an Independent to give all Connecticut voters a say. He really is out to lunch.
I didn’t have a chance to hear his concession speech, just read bits and pieces and heard him on CNN this morning. That was bad enough. Did he really take a whack at Maxine Waters, too? Is there a You Tube video up anyplace?
This purports to be Part 2 of the speech. The same guy has one that’s also labeled Part 2, which may or may not really be Part 1. Typos in labelling at midnight are excusable.
Thanks, Linkmeister. Looks like the other one was removed. Must have uploaded twice.
That was a sickening speech. He loves Joe Lieberman the bestest of all. And his wife is annoying, too. Ugh.

Kate, you wrote..."According to him, one great way uphold the ideals of this nation is to ignore the voters’ voices at the voting booth, thumb your nose at ‘em as the dumb clods they obviously are, and self-aggrandize your way to the general election.”
Well, DUH, of course he is going to do that..........isn’t that just the way the party he is more closely aligned with does it? He has learned at the feet(??) of the masters.......
Word is the party is going to do everything they can to pressure him into dropping that plan...we’ll see. Funny how even those who appear the most humble somehow all end up thinking they know so much more and are so much better than anyone else when it comes to politics.
