It’s like that here, too. I’m fortunate enough to not have to go out into it, but Scott and Alex do. Scott’s taken to wearing shorts, t-shirts, and sandals into the office, then changing into work clothes there. I’m keeping all the curtains closed to keep the sun out as much as possible. Just one more day.
I cringe to think what my electric bill will be like this month. Any use of the AC makes it go way up and I’ve used ours a lot this month. Fans worked pretty well up until the second half of July. But from that point on the AC has been on for some part of almost every day. High heat and humidity make me cranky and sap my energy, too.
It was a little hotter in New York than here, I think, Kim. It must be awful. And there hasn’t been any breeze, either. What a surprise this morning when our temperatures never rose above 75°. Somehow we got the benefit of the cold front without any thunderstorms. I really hope it arrives there soon for you guys and as quietly as it did here.
One thing I have noticed...the new windows on the front of my house have really helped in the morning where the morning sun shines. The house hasn’t heated up as fast. Maybe next year I can get the back windows replaced where the sun beats down all afternoon. Even with the blinds drawn, I can still feel the heat radiating through the old ones, but not even a hint of heat radiating through the new ones. An amazing difference.

We had weeks of the 100 plus weather and it is finally cooling (90’s). Got the power bill - we went from 90 the month before to 261.
Ugh.
Unfortunately, I don’t think we would have done anything differently in regards to power usage. It was incredibly hot if we didn’t run the AC. I’m not sure we would have made it without it, both from the physical effects of the heat, and the mental/psychological. Overwhelming heat makes us cranky.
