Simon was quite direct in his introductory letter which made it exceedingly clear that he is familiar with how some Americans feel. He is, understandably, nervous about what he’s walking into given the state of the world and American rhetoric. It’s an eye opening way to start the college experience. Yes, this will broaden some horizons and I hope it will be a humanizing experience for everyone involved.
the roommate sounds like a very interesting person. Now if you can just get him to pick up his socks.

It will be enriching for your son. My boys came home from college with a new appreciation for how good they had it all those years growing up. After they saw how other people lived (and thought), they looked back on their solid upbringings with more respect. The Lad will broaden and grow more humanized, and perhaps he’ll show one foreigner that not all Americans are boobs.
