Cider Press Hill

Winter's on its way

Today is the summer solstice, the official first day of summer. And yet, the days will now begin growing shorter again. My mind just can’t see this as anything but the beginning of the long slide back into winter. I’m not in the least ready to give up one minute of daylight. Granted, it’s daylight here at 4:30 in the morning through 9:00 at night, but that’s perfect and nature doesn’t need to go messing with it yet. Why couldn’t the solstice be in mid-July?

The last couple of days have been beautiful and we get another one today and tomorrow before the next rain storm moves in. There’s a sea breeze today so the temps have stayed in the mid-70s. I’ve been outside taking full advantage of it. Getting a lot accomplished, too.

But the funniest thing...all season I’ve been glaring at the grass willing it not to grow. Grass that (I swear) grew, on average, two inches a day. Now that this super little electric lawn mower has moved in, that I love so much I want to invite it to dinner, I want the grass to grow so we can go play. And it’s not growing two inches per day. It’s just sitting there.

Last night I ordered a handsome heavy duty overcoat for the little lawn mower so that the elements don’t harm it. That’s due to arrive on Friday. Nothing but the best for my new buddy. Besides not wanting anything to go wrong with it. I love this thing so much, I can’t tell you.

Gotta go back outside and do stuff. Maybe the grass grew.
