And what a great thought it is, Dave! That didn’t even occur to me!! My yard is small enough to easily accommodate an electric mower, too. I’ll start looking around because I NEED a lawnmower that can cut grass after 4 or 5 days of rain. The reel mower just can’t cope. And I already have a 100’ extension cord for the weed whacker. Great idea! Thanks!!!
BTW, what kind is your electric lawnmower? And what size engine? Like...9amp, 12? How does it do with longer grass? Like the kind you get after it rains 5-8 days in a row?
Mine is a Black and Decker LM175. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00005AKZE/103-0524322-8663030?v=glance&n=228013. $130 was about what I paid for it at Sears’ hardware. It’s only a 6.5 amp engine and 18” deck, so you’ll take more passes than you will with a 20” deck, standard on most gas-powered models. The one-handed height adjustment is especially nice. I got mine without the optional bag, as that cost extra.
I’ve had no problem with tall grass. I had about 10 days go by while I was unable to get to the yard, due to rain. If you slow down a bit, and aren’t in a rush, the mower mulches the grass plenty fine enough to leave no obviously visible clippings behind, even with really tall grass.
I’d be interested to know what you find out. Good luck.
I’m already accustomed to a smaller deck. The reel mower probably is about 18”, maybe 16”—I can’t remember, but it’s noticeably smaller than a standard power mower. The beauty of a mower starting every time is kind of like my dream come true. I’m *so* tired of fighting with gas engines. I like this idea more and more. Especially the $130 part. My weed whacker is a Black and Decker. I like it a lot. There’s a B&D outlet nearby. Ooh...I feel a trip coming up real soon.

I’ve had some lawnmower troubles recently myself. Mine threw a rod, and the engine exploded. I had just added oil, cleaned the filter, etc… Engine shrapnel and hot oil everywhere. Nobody got hurt, thankfully, but I was in need of a new mower, since the engine replacement was equal to the cost of a new mower.
I ended up going with an electric model. I already had the 100’ extension cord. I can tell you, I’m loving it. Starts and stops on a dime, no gas, oil, filters, and no emissions. All I can smell is fresh cut grass. Working with the cord is very easy with a little planning. (No more cutting in circles, like I used to.) That, and the thing is light. Very light. I can turn and push it uphill one handed, while the gas model was self-propelled, and still required a little force to get it up the front yard.
Just a thought.
