Cider Press Hill

Happy ending

On April 7 I wrote a post about the two mated bald eagles, George and Martha, who lived in Maryland at the edge of the Potomac. Martha was attacked by another female eagle, while flying, and was terribly hurt. At the time Martha and George had a nest with two eggs in it. Wildlife specialists speculated that George would try to take care of the nest and eggs by himself, abandon it, or get another mate. It was a wait and see situation. George elected to try to take care of the nest by himself. But the eggs didn’t make it. Still, George stuck around while Martha was many miles away at a rehab clinic.

On May 6, Martha was released back into the wild. She was released somewhere in Delaware, 90 miles from George and the site of their nest. And what do you know? She found her way back to George. They were spotted together this week.

That’s what I call a happy ending. Shoot, made my eyes get all watery.

(Thank you, Phillip, for letting me know!!)
