Notes and observations

I thought it worth noting that on my way back home this evening, I passed by that guy out walking his dogs. My immediate reaction was an internal cringe. But to my everlasting surprise, he behaved normally. He stood quietly on the side of the street with his dogs in tow and didn’t scowl at me or raise his traffic cop hand. Nor did he cower over his dogs to protect them. He just stood there and waited until I’d crawled by to resume his walk. I should probably also note here that he only seems to walk his dogs back and forth in the street in front of his house. Which is fine if they’re all happy with that. Apparently our little confrontation made an impression. Good. For the first time in memory, I passed by him without my fuse sputtering all the rest of the way home.

Today was the lad’s last AP exam. He feels he did well on them and now it’s just a matter of waiting out the clock until their last school day on the 17th. There is one project to finish up, but it’s mostly busy work. Because he complied with the rule of not incurring more than 3 unexcused absences this semester, he is excused from taking the rest of the final exams. Pretty much clear sailing from here on out. When I scooped him up after his exam today he wondered if we could go celebrate. “Sure,” I said, “What would you like to do?”

“Go get food,” he said.

So we went out to lunch and had a wonderfully relaxing time. A couple of his classmates stopped by and that was really fun. They feel FREE and relaxed and relieved. I think they should enjoy every last second of it, too. It may be the last time in their lives that they have this amazing moment of feeling lighter than air.

Today we were supposed to have a sunny warm day. According to the weather forecasters, anyway. Unfortunately, the day turned out overcast and cold. So now I am paying attention to the sunrises and sunsets. The weather forecasters say that tomorrow is going to be a miserable rainy day. But tonight’s sunset arrived in brilliant hues of pink and amber. I wouldn’t say there was a pronounced red, but the pinks were amazing. Does brilliant orangey amber mean anything? Now I can’t wait to see if tomorrow dawns sunny or rainy. If rainy, I’m not going to quite know what to think.
