Dog Bed No. 47

Regrettably, Dog Bed No. 46 didn’t work out as well as I’d hoped. Terry wore it out with her constant rearranging of toppings. The first thing she pointed out to me was that she utterly hated the throw rug that I bought to put on top of the foam pad. It was too lumpy and not soft enough. Every time I put it on top, she scraped it off into a pile beside the pad.  The foam pad was ripped full of holes within three weeks.

So tonight I went out and bought her a real dog bed at KMart. Not terribly expensive, but a real one nonetheless with lots of stuffing and a removable, washable cover. I bought a zippered vinyl mattress cover to enclose it in and a thick and fuzzy blanket to go on top. I figure that should protect the bed from wet feet. Who knows how long the thick vinyl cover will last. It if doesn’t last, I’ll try something else. The plushy blanket on top seems to be the real big deal for her, though. She really, really loves her new blanket. Instead of trying to rearrange things, she just sinks down into it with palpable bliss. Once again Terry is in doggy nirvana. Maybe this bed will hold up.
