Yes, they are. But having seen the long-suffering of the Sox fans for years and years and years...and decades...and decades...you just keep hoping and lovin’ your team. I watched KCR in the 1980 World Series and totally adopted them. Their day will come again. I hope it doesn’t take as long as it did for the Red Sox, though. ;)
Despite those awful powder-blue double-knit uniforms, Pablo, I thought the Brett-led Royals were super, and those wars with the Yankees in the ALCS games (boo, Chambliss!) gave us scintillating baseball.
Oh my, this sounds nothing like the Kate I once knew. Didn’t one of our early FTFs include your gleeful cheering for the Yankees and the revelation that you were in fact a fan of those Evil Beasts in Pinstripes?
I like this Kate, at least in hardball terms, better.
Gotta disagree about the 1980 Royals, since that remains the one and only WS victory for my Phillies. I did cheer a bit for Brett’s hemorrhoid, however.
Well sure, I was brought up on the Yankees. I mean, I was born and raised in New York state. Whaddya expect? But my eyes were opened. ;)
And besides, they do nasty things.
Like this (last half of article). The Yanks didn’t want Mirabelli, but they found out about the trade negotiations and jumped in to interfere. I realize all is (supposedly) fair in love and war, but Cashman’s remark, “I wanted it to hurt” was just low. (I suppose sportsmanship is a pipe dream in pro sports...) It was a lousy trick. Screw’em. I hope the Sox mop the field with them the rest of the year.
I remember when you were one “of those people” too!! And am ever so glad you came over to this side!! They are nasty. I heard the same story about Mirabella too--isn’t it nice to have enough money to try and pick up a player you probably don’t need just to cut the other guy’s throat. Oh well........we won this round anyway!!
BTW, don’t know which local channel you watch for news but CH 4 tonight (CBS) recapped last night again and after showing that classic shot of Mirabella running out of the police car fully dressed in his RS uniform, they were quick to add that the RED SOX paid for the police cars and escorts and NO TAXPAYER DOLLARS were used. I had figured as much, but am glad they noted it cause otherwise you know someone would have brought it up!!
Thanks Cyn...I was wondering if he rode in a police car or if the police escorted a limo or something. Gosh, the police officer driving him must have felt like the luckiest guy alive.
Did they happen to mention where Mirabelli got his uniform? Did the police deliver it with the car or did he still have one or what?
I didn’t see the clip on the news. Maybe they’ll still be playing it tonight? I’d like to see it.
This is too weird, cause I am so not a baseball fan (normally) but for some reason this year I have been paying attention--maybe cause the Bruins let me down again!! And because the PATS traded my idol, Adam V. and I am desperate for someone new. LOL Anyway, yes, this morning’s Globe has the whole story about Mirabelli on the sports pages, it is a quick read, but fun. The officer picked up the uniform at the park before heading to the airport...most memorable quote was when Mirabelli was asked if he had ever been in a police car before and he said, “not naked!!” You can access the article and read the whole thing, it was interesting!!
That was a neat story, Cyn. He wanted to come back and was excited to be back. Well, we’re glad to have him back. Now, beat Yankees. The Sox-Yankees game was rained out last night, but looks like a 5 game set in August now. That should be lively.

I think the Kansas City Royals are currently in last place.
