Disappointed as I am with the wishy-washy Cantwell, there does not appear to be any alternative to her for the general election. Her only known “opponent” in the primary is a guy who’s perhaps one (small) step above a perennial/nuisance candidate, who’s previously run for office as a Libertarian and as a Green and maybe under other banners as well. Whatever small funding he can raise is completely and totally because he isn’t Maria ... no one, and I mean no one, would give the guy a Turkish lira because he’s Mark Wilson.
I’m very conflicted in this one. I will vote for Maria in November, but I can’t see doing much more than that. If my district’s endorsement meeting were taking place today, I’d write “no endorsement” on my ballot ... I couldn’t support either of them for the nomination. If my primary ballot were in front of me today, I’d leave the “US Senate” section blank. I can’t see carrying her campaign literature when I canvass my precinct. I won’t send her any money—better to support, for example, Darcy Burner‘s campaign to defeat Dave Reichert across Lake Washington in WA-8.
As one who has had to live with the sheer idiocy longer than most (I’ve been in TX), I somtimes liked to think that I had better coping mechanisms to deal with Bush’s general ineptitude and, well, bull better than a lot of other folks. I see that the frustration is starting to set in for the rest of the country as well.
What I found out, sadly, was that it was easier to deal with Bush as governor of TX a whole lot more than as president because we have a weak governor form of government down here. When you have the Republicans running EVERYTHING in D.C., it makes it so much harder to bear.
I wish I could offer you something more than a stiff martini and a box of Excedrin to get you through the next three years, but that’s about all I can come up with!
Oh, you know, I missed it. But tuned in to CSPAN about 10:00 and listened to some caller comments. This must have been a blockbuster SOTU. Alan, it’s going to take a lot of martinis and margaritas and just plain swigs straight from the bottle to get through these next 3 years.
He preempted House? I haven’t looked at TiVo to see if it came on later. Crap. He’s not worthy of preempting House. I think the 7:00 time slot would have been ideal, but what about 8:00? He could have preempted Bill O’Reilly.
N, can’t you guys dig someone up who is better than Cantwell? It shouldn’t be too difficult. Like a returning vet or something? There are 43 other ones running this year, aren’t there? Come on. Pull a rabbit out of the hat. Get Rid Of Her. I’m so sick of weak spined DINOs. How bad does it have to get before these people find some backbone?!
Well, there are only 1084 more days until the next Inauguration. Barring any unexpected declarations of martial law or changes in the constitution.
The best unscheduled part of the whole speech was when he said Congress failed to act on his proposal to fix Social Security last year, and every Democrat stood up and cheered/applauded wildly.
Disconcerted, our box o’ rocks President was.
I hope a clip of that goes up on Crooks and Liars tomorrow. I’d like to see that!
Didn’t the Dems do something like that last year or the year before? Seems as if I recall GW shooting them a wicked nasty look. No love lost there.
I was afraid to turn the TV on last night. After taking care of three sick children (yes now all three of them are vomit machines, yeah) I didn’t think it would be a good idea. Apparently I made the right choice!
It’s almost as nauseating reading about it after the fact. But, yes, you probably made the right choice. You poor thing!!! I’ll keep my fingers crossed that all recover quickly. You do the same for me. The lad picked up the same bug and is having a tough go of it this morning, too.

I feel your pain........and for all of the reasons you have listed above, why would we (or anyone with half a brain) want to listen to his whitewash of a dismal presidency with no positive signs anywhere?
My mom (who is 90 and has LOTS to say about this presidency) and I figured what the hell, we would watch American Idol tonight--at least the idiots/morons/jackasses (get my drift??) on there are funny--and then realized the SOTU is scheduled on ALL channels from 9-11. Guess a little online game playing is on for tonight!! LOL
Heehee, my word is floored and that is exactly what we will all be if we listen to or read the lying rhetoric that will be spewing forth from our nation’s capitol tonight…
