Cider Press Hill

Just what I needed

I stood in front of the basement door and yanked on the door knob. Suddenly I was flying backwards with the door knob in my hand. And I landed on my backside. It was not a soft landing.

So here I am in the midst of tearing my house apart and I can’t get into the basement. The carpet cleaner machine is down there. The washing machine is down there. I’ll have to solve this little problem soon.

I haven’t taken the time to get the screw driver out to poke around inside the door knob mechanism. I’m supposing I can probably get the bolt to retract out of the strike plate if I poke the right thing.

Replacing the entire door is on my list of things to do. I’m not crazy about hollow core doors. But I hadn’t planned on doing it this week. I’ll have to come up with some temporary solution with regard to the door knob and bolt. It’s not worth replacing if I’m going to replace the entire door soon.

Duct tape. That’ll be a big part of the temporary solution. I think.
