I can’t because the door is still tightly latched with the doorknob bolt stuck in the strike plate (inside the door frame). The whole door is firmly set inside the door frame and I can’t lift it an inch in any direction. I did give a moment’s thought to taking the ax to the door though. And I haven’t totally discounted that idea, either. I haven’t been able to draw the bolt back out of the door frame with the screwdriver yet. If I was an engineer, this would probably be easy.
Well, I suppose you could just shimmy through a basement window, but be sure to get photos!
It wouldn’t be the first time.
Not a picture of grace, I assure you.
I spent some time with the screw driver and door this morning and managed to get it open. Now the bolt is securely duct taped inside the door so that it can’t latch. The door knob is re-attached so that at least I can pull the door open. It’ll do until the door is replaced, which, I guess, will have to be soon.

I suppose you’ve already thought of taking the hinge pins out and lifting the door out of the frame.
