Bundle them with velcro ties, about one tie per foot. I find that I need to move things often enough that the plastic tube things aren’t practical, but you can pretty easily get one thing out of the velcro. Something like this: http://tinyurl.com/dhvlh
Also affixing things to the underside of the table is good, if you can/are willing to. This keeps them out of feet kicking range.
A quick Google search for cable organizers turned up this interesting thing. Wraparound coils rather than the plastic sleeves I’ve seen in catalogs. Cheap, too.
I’m with steph. I use velcro at home and work, and it’s great.
I have used the velcro thingies before, but used them to bundle the *slack* in each individual wire/cord to keep them from becoming a tangled mess on the floor. Bundling all the cords together had somehow escaped me. That would obviously keep things a lot tidier. Those flexible coil thingies might be worth a try, too. I like how they look.
Wireless everything would be so cool. Someday it’ll probably be the standard. I’ve thought about a wireless keyboard and mouse, too, but I’d heard that the battery life on these items is pretty limited. Is that still true of the new generation of wireless products?
Make a cable wire cozy....you know a sort of sleeve that goes around the wires and keeps them bundled together. You can either sew a tube or close one up with velcro. Quick and easy.
....or and this is what I actually did for a while. I took a board, painted it the same color as the wall and then created a space between the desk and the wall that hid all the wires..about 3 inches. I drilled a hole or two for those wires that couldn’t make the distance around the board and poked them through the holes.
We’re back to wired after I got sick of feeding batteries to wireless keyboard and mouse, purchased less than a year ago. We switched to rechargeable batteries, which cut the cost down some, but the wretched things always chose to die at the most inconvenient moments possible.
That’s kinda what I thought, Eleanor. They’re probably a good choice for the casual user, but not so much for anyone in this house. I remember standing in Staples a year or so ago, looking at wireless keyboards and a woman standing next to me said she was there to replace her wireless keyboard and mouse because the battery life was terrible.
I like the look of the coil things! Velcro is a good idea too! I have a wireless mouse. And yes the batteries can be a pain. But mine seem to last a couple of months at a time. I make sure I keep a load in my desk drawer at all times. I keep telling myself that I am going to get one of the recharges but never seem to get around to it lol. But I love my cordless mouse. No fighting with the dang cord! My mouse gives me plenty of warning for the batteries. It pops a message up when I turn the computer on and then when I go to shut it down. When they are very low it will pop up at any time while it is on.
I thought I saw some long cord organizer someplace???? Like the ones you use to hide the lamp cords on the wall? But for computer wires. They look like a sleeve???
