Sprung

School’s out for Christmas vacation. Yay! The lad called shortly after noon and wondered if I’d be willing to spring him early. There was going to be some silly assembly program during the last two periods and everyone was trying to figure out a way to bail. Not a problem for me. I sprung him and he’s a free man for the next 10 days.

Tomorrow he leaves for his Dad’s house. He’ll stay there through Christmas evening and then he’ll come back here for the rest of the week. Originally we’d planned to have him there until Christmas Eve. Then he’d come back here for Christmas and then go back for a week’s vacation in Alabama with the family. But he decided he didn’t want to go to Alabama. So we rearranged the schedule again and I suggested he stay there for Christmas morning.

Now the Dad is all panicky again. Owing to our decision on what to finally get for the lad, the Dad is getting part of the present and I’m getting the other part. If he opens half the present there, he’ll know what he’s getting here. What to do, what to do?

I think he’ll end up opening small stuff there and bring the rest back here to open. It’s an imperfect solution, but the best one we can come up with. Ah, the little complications of having two families that can make gift giving a regular feat of engineering.

There is such a happy atmosphere in the house today. It feels good to Be On Vacation!!!
