Seriously?? Nothing?? Kate, there has to be a foot here by now--and I think I am no more than 30 miles--if that--from you. Total white out conditions right now and the wind has kicked up in the last hour. Amazing!! I am into the comfort food mode, so in between Christmas decorating and cleaning (very little of either) I made a HUGE pot of spaghetti sauce (gravy to the Italians among us) and have an old family recipe for drop doughnuts raising in a warm spot in the kitchen… ok, enough talking, back to doing something productive!! If you have a hankering for a Christmas-y day, c’mon down!!
It took a while, but the snow finally came. Good night! It’s a blizzard out there. We have the white out conditions, too, and now we also have about a foot on the ground with no signs of it letting up.
Typically, as soon as I shoveled the driveway, the snow plow came rumbling past and now my driveway is full again. Then the wind filled the driveway full and the snow keeps coming. I’m not shoveling again until it stops.
And on top of that, I think the persons at the National Weather Service who still insist on issuing a piddly little winter weather advisory (a winter weather advisory is issued when less than 6 inches are forecast) need to LOOK OUT THEIR WINDOWS!
Meanwhile, Terry who has to go so bad that her eyes are swimming, refuses to go through the door.
Sheesh. Being flip about the weather doesn’t pay, does it?
I forgot to mention the thunder and lightening. Snow thunder I think it is called. Shook the house more than a time or two. Snow has stopped, I think-- where it HAS NOT drifted, there is 18"--where it has, a lot more. Sun coming out, I can see a sunset--how weird a day was this??
PS--just got off the phone with my girlfriend who lives on Oahu--she said, I’ll trade for a day or two, it is SO hot here--and then laughed like crazy!! I could strangle her--good thing she is my very best friend!! I’ll trade with her--she’ll change her tune real quick!!
Yep, it stopped here a few minutes ago with the sunlight coloring the tops of a few trees with pink. Now the sun is gone again and the sky is a deep charcoal grey to the north and east. Looks like about a foot where it didn’t drift. It’s hard to say. There was over a foot against my back door, but the front yard was almost swept clean. In the side yard, though, it’s pretty deep.
No thunder here today. I’ve heard it in past storms, though. Certainly not what you’d expect in the middle of a raging snow storm.
Your house must smell wonderful today, between the sauce and the doughnuts. You made my mouth water, Cyn!
Oh, did I mention that there is one happy kid in this house today? He’s dreaming of fierce snow storms all winter long. The seniors don’t have to make up snow days at the end of the year. ;)
cyn, it’s 85.6 degrees F at 1335hst in Honolulu right now.
It’s pretty stuff, but…

Well, we got our 3 inches or so. Shoveled last night, and we got maybe about another 1/4 inch this morning. Most of the main streets are clear, though the sides are a bit icy. Hasn’t stopped people from driving poorly, but they do that anyway.
Get your snow yet?
