Cider Press Hill

Lightly salted crow

It wasn’t too long ago that I rather heatedly remarked on the lad’s refusal to rejoin the drama department on an as-needed, unpaid volunteer basis—after the hosing the drama teacher gave him last year. Well.....things changed. Sort of.

There is a new drama teacher. The other one is still there, but occupied elsewhere. The new drama teacher is nice. She’s of generous spirit. She has a sense of humor. And she doesn’t mind getting her hands dirty, right along with the students. She approached him and asked if he would help her out. Flashing her dazzling smile at him, he wilted and said “sure.”

He’s working on a Shakespeare play, I believe, but his participation will be short-term. He agreed to do the sound design for the play and then she plans to run the sound. Because she enjoys it. And, from the booth, she can maintain contact with the stage crew and light crew—so it’s really a good place for her to be. She has confidence in her stage manager, so she doesn’t have to hover around the set. The lad is impressed with this woman. And is up at school this very moment.

Can’t say for sure, but I have a feeling this won’t be his last contribution this year. She has won him over.
