Cider Press Hill

It's big, anyway.

The storm is over, the rain and wind have stopped. Now the construction workers on the hill behind the house are back to work on the neighbor’s house addition, making lots of noise. They’ve been at this since July. I hope they’re finished by the time the snow starts. I grabbed the camera and took a couple of shots this morning. I’m curious to see how it all turns out. The addition on this house is larger than the original house—maybe it’s just me (not being altogether thrilled with their tree cutting and dirt dumping ways...), but I think it looks weird.

This is my view from my kitchen window. The yellow part and the peaked roof part next to it are the original house. I think they plan to paint the house that color yellow...they just did that a couple of weeks ago. Where they once had a large back yard, now they’re really close to their neighbors garage. The neighbors, perhaps being a little alarmed at the ‘spreadage’, have taped their property line off with bright yellow ribbon.

This is how they fitted the edges of the two peaked roofs together. I haven’t gone around to look at how other houses are put together, but this looked odd. (I notice the yellow section’s roof is kind of oddly angled, too.) I presume there is still a lot of finishing work to do on it. My first thought when I saw it was, “That’s a lot of rot waiting to happen.”

It looks as if this new addition abuts another peaked roof on the front of the house. I haven’t been up there in a few months, but I think the original house was “L” shaped. Something is different, though. I was never able to see the L wing from my yard before. This is going to be an interestingly angled house when it’s finished, but at least it’ll be as large as all the other new McMansions on the hill now.
