More rain

We’re going into our second week of rain. It doesn’t want to stop. Now we have a town (Taunton) downstate evacuating large sections ahead of a dam break. The dam is deteriorating by the hour and the national guard has been moved in. The gov had declared a state of emergency for the state early in the weekend, but lifted it on Sunday. Maybe prematurely. Taunton had been under threat as their swollen river rose on Saturday. Portions of the town had been evacuated as the dam threatened to give way. The evacuation was lifted and people went back home on Sunday as flood waters began to recede.

Also, over the weekend, the high winds blew a transformer in south Boston which cut power to Deer Island (out in Boston Harbor). That shut down the sewage treatment plant that serves most of Boston. As a result, millions of gallons of raw sewage had to be released into the harbor. That, of course, is not good in a huge way. Many areas of the state were flooded, with roads and bridges under water, but things started to settle down on Sunday as the rain and high winds stopped.

The rain came back last night and this morning. Now, who knows. Let’s hope the dam holds. Let’s hope nothing else is washed away or submerged. This weather is just wretched.
