LOL! Did your mother have any choice words for the detergent people? Had it been my mother (or me) she would have told them the test wouldn’t be complete unless company representatives personally came to her door so she could clock them upside the head with the detergent box to see if the handle held.
BTW, I couldn’t possibly part with some of the items that need to be rewashed. Favorite, perfectly broken in jeans. My cherished fuzzy socks....my fuzzy, comfy sweatshirts. Oh, and three brand new turtlenecks in this year’s new jewel tone colors. Oooh. I love my duds.
As I recall, my mother was just pleased to have two months worth of detergent for free.
I still bet you’re worth some fine new togs!
Uhg. Same thing happened to BC and I when I used a free trial pack. I didn’t think anything of it because I use downy or snuggle all the time. I forgot however why I stopped using tide.......... dang!
LOL my word is clear!
as in All clear, that’s what I like most! ok I think I have had to much coffee today
I like Tide about the best of all brands as long as I can get the unscented variety. The last time I bought some, it was the Tide HE, which I think is supposed to be used in the new high efficiency front loader washers. It seems to clean better than the regular Tide and there’s much less sudsing. It gets out the ground-in dirt/mud in the lad’s practice tee shirts extremely well. Anything that can do that earns my love and devotion.
No such thing as too much coffee!
Pablo...well, I don’t mean to be difficult here, but clothes shopping ranks somewhere between cleaning the cat box and root canals. However, a trip to LL Bean is probably in order in the not too distant future....
So if he’s cross country or track, how does he get ground in dirt in his shirts?
They have to do exercises during practice. Sit-ups and push-ups. And it rains a lot here. Ick.
LOL, you forget what I am like when I have had to much coffee! I can’t use any kind of tide at all. Though it is one of the best for getting out stains. But, it seemed to me that it faded my colors a lot more than others that I have used.
Hey my word is ciderpress! Does that mean I win something????? hehe.
Tide keeps deleting my messages on their message board, but I think it is important for people to have this information. I had a bad allergic reaction to Tide with a Touch of Downy, even though I have no problem with separate Tide and liquid Downy. The odd thing about this reaction is that it consists of itchy, red papules or bumps that look like insect bites. They may occur in pairs or clusters, and particularly occur behind the elbows and knees. Most cases of contact dermatitis cause a more confluent rash, not sporadic papules like this. Thus, the lesion looks like insect bites. Dermatologists may likely diagnose these lesions as mite bites (scabies) or “bed bugs” and may treat accordingly. The lesions take a few weeks to go away, and I have some residual scarring on my arms, legs, and face. If you have such a reaction to Tide with a Touch of Downy, it is important to report it to the US Consumer Product Safety Commission at: https://www.cpsc.gov/incident.html. You also may contact me, as I am tabulating the cases, at pjacmail-tide1@yahoo.com.
A couple of weeks ago, I washed 3 loads of my clothes with Tide with a Touch of Downy and suddenly broke out into a weird rash mostly in my inner thigh. I’ve noticed smaller “plaque” like dry scaly patches now on my neck, back, buttocks, and legs. After doing some research, it is quite possible that it’s the detergent. It’s good to know that I am not the only one with such a reaction. I will go to the consumer website.
I have slowly been developing a small, very itchy, red rash - particularly on my neck and chest. It started about the time I noticed my normal Tide scent (Clean Breeze) now had a “touch of Downy.” Well, that little “touch” has done me in! I’m not rewashing everything in the original Clean Breeze scent minus the Downy. It actually scared me because the rash got worse and worse each day - it’s been comforting to know I’m not the only one.

So, a sort of Red Tide! I don’t think you should rewash your clothes. I think you should throw them out and buy yourself an altogether new wardrobe. Admit it. You’re worth it girlfriend!
Many years ago, my mother did some research for a detergent manufacturer. (Having 8 children made her a good site for these kinds of tests.) She washed our clothes in the detergent for two months or so, paying close attention to any skin reactions, how clean the clothes were, if they were fraying, etc. At the end of the period, she was asked for her opinion . . . on the handle atop the detergent box!
