Cider Press Hill

New windows

My new windows are installed downstairs (upstairs windows go in tomorrow). They are pretty, too! And not a draft to be felt anywhere. Today is a good test day for drafts—the wind is blowing a gale. As often happens, however, there is a but. Unfortunately, the trim pieces around the windows were well and truly painted in place. Trying to pry them off didn’t go so well. Now they are battered and split and need to be replaced. That’s my job and I’m not really eager to do it, but it’s gotta be done. I hate trying to cut mitered corners. I think I’ll take the easy route and use the current ones as templates. Then all the woodwork has to be painted again. The old windows were off white. The new ones are bright white. Off white and bright white don’t work well together, at least to my eye. Such are the never ending chores of owning a home. Once it’s all done, it’ll be beeyootiful.
