Adapting

The awkward adjustment to not-summer has begun. We’re sort of betwixt and between, in the season called autumn. One day it’s hot and the next day feels frigid. We rapidly cooled down last night to a shocking 50 degrees, representing a 30 degree drop in temperature within 24 hours. This morning it was even colder. I woke up and quickly scrambled into my fleecy sweatshirt and jeans and thick fuzzy socks. It felt cold in the house. But, when I looked at the inside thermometer, it said 73 degrees. Somehow that doesn’t sound cold. But it feels cold today. In another two months, that will feel cozy warm and a 50 degree day would almost inspire me to throw open the windows and bask in the spring-like temperatures. I guess that means we humans are adaptable. It just takes a while. Today I’m freezing.
