Cider Press Hill

Busy, busy

The lad decided, this morning, that today is going to be a mental health day. No school for him. It’s one of his easy days with no important classes or assignments due, so that’s his choice to make. He gets 3 unexcused absences each semester—if he wants to use one today, that’s fine with me. Actually, it’s really fine with me—he said that he’d stack the rest of the wood today, since I’ve already stacked a little over a cord. He told me before he left for his Dad’s house this weekend that if I left the rest, he’d stack it for me this week.

So, we are both about to go out and attend to the remaining pile of wood in the driveway. He’ll stack and I have to go get a large trash barrel for the pile of small bits and pieces of wood that I’ll use for kindling and small stove fires to take the chill off the house on the late October mornings. Kind of a lazy day in one regard, but still plenty to do. By the end of the day, we should be well and truly ready for winter. Well, except for the new weather stripping that I also have to buy and apply around the front door...and a bit of pink insulation to stuff around various places in the basement. And the new windows that should be ready to install by the end of the week. I guess by the end of today, the *important* preparations for winter will be completed.
