I had Comcast for about 5 years. Well, actually, the company started out as MediaOne and was bought out by AT&T and bought out again by Comcast. MediaOne was a great company. Good prices and really dependable fast internet. Customer service and internet dependability went downhill with each successive buyout while the price kept rising and rising.
Verizon’s dependability is great. It is always there. I have no complaints about that *at all*, but now they’re starting the price hikes...which I wouldn’t mind as much (they’re still less expensive than Comcast) if I was getting even close to the internet speeds that I’m now paying for. It seems to me that if they’re going to charge me their top tier prices, there should be some corresponding increase in speed. But no...guess not because I live too far away from the CO. The speeds I’m getting now are what I’m going to get no matter how often they tell me I am paying for speeds up to 3.0Mbps...as if that’s just the sweetest deal going. It would be if I could get anywhere close to 3.0Mbps! Heck, I’d even be thrilled if I could get more than halfway near 1.5Mbps.

I’ve had Cox high speed cable for about three years now, and I’ve never had a problem. It’s fast, reliable and costs about the same as DSL. You may want to look into cable… (though a friend of mine in a nearby county had his cable company as his ISP and got lousy speed and worse customer service, but I won’t mention that carrier’s name. [Adelphia] oops.
