Cider Press Hill

Dog stubborn

You know how a dog, when he doesn’t want to do something, can suddenly gain 100 pounds and his butt melds with the ground? And how it would take a force greater than god to peel his rump off the pavement? I saw that this morning.

A man and his dog had just finished their romp in the park and it was time to go home. The blond fuzzy cross between a schnauzer and a cocker spaniel sat on the sidewalk with his head tucked almost into his chest, avoiding Dad’s eyes. Dad stood in front of him, gesticulating wildly toward the opened car door. Get In, his choppy arm movements said. No deal, the dog’s body language said as he gained yet another 10 pounds.

Dad bent over to scoop the dog up and almost tumbled over him. Doggie wasn’t ready to go home. Again Dad grabbed the dog, this time lifting him off the ground. And the dog went as limp as a noodle with legs and head flopping in every direction. Dad still managed to stuff him into the back seat and slammed the door hard enough to rock the car on its chassis.

And I laughed almost all the rest of the way home. Because I’ve been there and done that. There’s no stubborn like dog stubborn.
