They certainly have added a few feet to their yard. I’ve been hoping against any gully washers while the Caterpillar is perched on the edge....
In West Virginia it’s called “mountaintop removal."
With your weather this summer I don’t blame you for being concerned.
I wish I had photographs of the hill before they did this. I think they scraped the top down, then shoved a massive amount of dirt over the edge. They effectively shortened the slope (length) of the hill. I supposed that’s a little like mountain top removal. At least they haven’t dynamited anything yet.
That is, by the way, a really depressing article. What are they gonna do after they’ve poisoned us all?
Can you say “Argentina?”
Note that the article is part 3 of 3. If you want to further depress yourself, read the first two. It’s amazing what one little word change ("waste" to “fill") can do to public policy, ain’t it?
I also noted the part about reclassifying high level nuclear waste as “incidental” which means the government can wash its hand of any responsibility for it. That is a bad idea on several levels.
The people don’t matter any more.

... Here’s hoping that their lovely terrace doesn’t end up in your back yard!!
It looks like quite the monumental task they’ve undertaken.
