I knew Stinky for about a year before I realized he was terrified of thunder. That surprised me completely. He was such a tough guy and it just didn’t occur to me that he’d be afraid of anything. Until the day I found him cowering under my porch, during a sudden thunderstorm, loudly crying in the most heartbreaking way. In fact, that was the moment that I decided to adopt him and move him in with us.
Now I’m surprised at Abbie’s response to thunder and fireworks. Totally unexpected. She never even acknowledged the noise before. I’ve been wondering this summer, though. Everytime we’ve had a thunderstorm, she’s been in the basement. I hadn’t seen her reaction during a storm, but I thought it was an odd coincidence for her always to be down there after one had passed. Her reaction Saturday night clarified matters in a hurry.
If you get a new kitten, there *must* be pictures! A new kitten...oh there’s nothing like a new kitten. There will be waves of envy radiating out of this house if you do.
hehe.
Of course there will be photos…
If I find the right kitten at some point soon!
I’m waiting on the right one.
And I’m rather particular too. Hrm. (Various reasons.)

Very odd!
My cat Nikita has never been afraid of thunder. She doesn’t like loud noises like firecrackers, but she doesn’t run & hide or anything, she just looks mildly annoyed. Thunder doesn’t seem to bother her at all.
But then when Fief came to live with us at around age 10, Fief was afraid of thunder. Whenever it would storm he would run under the bed and hide. And mind you, this was a handicapped cat who never ran EVER, he hobbled. Yet at the first crack of thunder, boy could he get a move on all the way to the bedroom. haha.
Nikita was still not bothered by storms.
And since Fief’s been gone (over 2 years now), Nikita’s still not bothered by storms.
I’m thinking of getting a kitten for her now. I wonder if a new kitten will be any different.
