Learned fear?

Our town’s week-long summer festival is drawing to a close, tonight, with the annual fireworks display. It just started a few minutes ago. As soon as the first bang occurred, Abbie (kitty) leaped off my bed and dived underneath. I looked under there and saw her panting with her mouth wide open. Very afraid.

That’s a new development. For six years she wasn’t in the least affected by fireworks or thunder. And then Stinky came to live with us. He was petrified of both thunder and fireworks.

Which leads me to wonder...did he pass his fear on to her? Did he teach Abbie that thunder and fireworks are terrible, scary things to be deeply feared? That’s the only conclusion I can reach.
