Cider Press Hill

Almost a two-fer

Below is a diagram of the intersection I wrote about a couple of days ago. The one where people like to run red lights. Today I was stopped at the red light when a huge truck came barrelling up the street behind me. It became apparent that the driver wasn’t going to stop. And I also began to get the idea he was going to crash into me. But, at the last second (and I mean the *last* second), he swerved to the right of me and blasted through the red light, probably doing at least 50 mph. The poor soul sitting on the side street by Dunkin Donuts had already started pulling out on her green light and well, the truck missed hitting her by mere inches. She probably still hasn’t stopped shaking.

I came home and called the police department and made an urgent request, after describing what happened today and a couple of days ago—“Would you please send a cruiser over to patrol the intersection. It’s a free-for-all over there.” Apparently I wasn’t the first to call, either.

A little later I decided to go see if there was a cruiser over there. Figured I’d get my pound of Dunkin Donuts ground coffee and a cup to go—and maybe sit in the parking lot for a few minutes to see if anything exciting happened.

Oh well...excitement galore. It sure didn’t take long for someone to run a red light. I hung around long enough to see the officer pull over four cars. I wish he’d been there this morning. I hope he’s there tomorrow and the next day, too, until people get a clue or before someone (me) is killed.
