Whew. One word—blisters.
I now have one on each thumb. Ouch.
Well, you know, HD is close to me in New Hampshire, which is tax-free. Lowes is a ways away in the opposite direction. The local hardware stores scalp the local clientele. That’s probably because of a combination of the toney town and HD being just up the street. Nevertheless, I balk at spending $16 plus tax on a rake when I can get one tax-free for $8.99. I would have bought one at KMart, but they took down all their garden tools and have now set up their back to school displays. Grrr!
I have, however, completely weaned myself from stepping foot inside WalMart.
ME TOO! ... and I love Canadian Tire stores. They aren’t cheap and I could get the same at WallyWorld, ... but it’s closer.
I’d go just about anywhere else besides WalMart. They play the worst crap on their speaker system. One of the last times I was there, there was some WalMart produced program on teaching women how to be better wives and mothers. It was so insulting. Maybe I missed the program teaching men how to be better husbands and fathers, but I kind of doubt there was one. I hate that place.

Y’know, there do exist less-Walmartian mega-hardware stores. Even Lowe’s might be a better corporate citizen.
That said, my last hardware purchase (metric and English-sized Allen wrench sets) was at HD.
