Birds and flowers

Sitting at the bank’s drive-up, this morning, I saw a Mockingbird fly into the low growing bushes by the bank’s parking lot, next to the building. That’s the second day in a row that I’ve seen the bird make the same approach in the same spot.

After I finished banking, I stopped to take a peek (from the car window)—there is a nest in one of the bushes. The mama was sitting on her nest and the male was feeding her. It would seem like a busy place to build a nest, but I doubt if there are many predators around that area. Especially cats. But it’s close enough to a large old cemetery to offer a lot of food options and close enough to the building to discourage other large birds of prey from swooping in. Really, a perfect location for a nest.

The other thing I noticed was the bank’s window flower boxes. Yesterday afternoon they were bare. This morning they are filled with bright yellow tulips and masses of purple pansies. What a cheerful sight. Apparently the bank contracts with a garden concern to maintain their window boxes. Someone was busy last night. In another month the window boxes will be filled with bright summer flowers.

My bank is a new construction, it has only been there about three years. It’s modeled after a northeastern colonial home, the clapboards painted a pastel yellow with lots of white trim. Lots of really pretty landscaping, too. I think it’s the prettiest commercial building in the entire town. Inside as well as out. The people who work there have mentioned more than once that it’s a lovely place to work with an atmosphere almost like a home environment. That’s how it feels to me, too. For about the first time in my life, going to the bank is a really pleasurable experience.

If you’re bored today, here’s a game guaranteed to waste your time and have you completely addicted within 5 minutes. I found reference to it over at Dave’s place. I really wouldn’t want to say how much time I’ve spent on it in the past couple of days. Try it out. Feel your blood pressure rise. ;)
