The check is in the mail

The plumbing company that repaired my furnace a couple of weeks ago called me this late this morning. Remember how the bill for repairs came to $300 more than the estimate? They called me to inquire after my mailing address since they’d sent a check to my home address and it was returned. We updated the mailing address and the check goes out again this afternoon.

So, how much was the check for, you might wonder? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I was overcome by a sudden bashfulness and felt strange about excitedly asking, “How much is the check for?!”

I’m just surprised that there is any check. Maybe it’ll be a little, maybe it’ll be a good compromise, maybe it’ll be more. I think I’ll be satisfied in any event. The gesture counts for a lot in this case.

Update - 3/10: Interesting solution they came up with. A check worth one hour of labor plus a voucher for another hour of free labor. In total, that’s about half the difference between the estimate and actual repairs bill. It kind of made me smile. Yep, I’m a repeat customer and I will be again. Of course, they’ve just made sure of it. ;)
