So, I just went to the cam and....nothing. How many kitties are there? And five bowls of food? Wow. I’d better not let my two see that. They think life is pretty good with one very large bowl.
Ooh, Steph. The pic arrived and there really *is* a cat in the box. Thank you. I wonder how long before I’ll catch one.
hahaha!! Holding it!
You just found this now? hehe.
Come now, I’ve been peeking in on this cam for at least 3-4 years I think (man where does the time go!?), and well - yeah, sometimes there isn’t a cat using the facilities at that particular moment. But there are several cats that use the facilities shown, so I can’t imagine that you could watch all day and just never happen to be looking at it when there’s a cat in view. Seems like the odds would be against it.
I don’t even know how many cats they have. I think I’ve seen AT LEAST 3-4 different cats over the years there. But I’ve seen a white (more off white - yellowy) fluffy one the most often. And I know I’ve seen a gray one and a black one - and maybe a seal point at some point, but I could be wrong.
As for the food dishes - man, I remember when I used to leave food out like that all the time for 2 cats so skinny people thought I wasn’t feeding them at all!
Then my Fief died, and my Nikita didn’t take it so well. I can’t leave food out for her all the time anymore.
Well duh - here I actually scrolled down - and they have a cast list!
Apparently there have been up to 7 cats there over the years. Some have died. :(
Actually, I have to say, I’ve never seen that Shelby cat! Died in 2003, but I was checking the cam before that. And interestingly enough - apparently Shelby liked watermelon. hehe.
At any rate, it now makes sense why I’ve seen the white fluffy one the most - because they have TWO white fluffy ones! LOL.
What I found interesting was this on the FAQ page:
The litterboxes, food bowls and water you see on cam are not the cats primary food, water and “facilities” There are two other litterboxes and at least two other feeding locations in the house.
Which means they have at least 7 food dishes and 4 litter boxes between 4 cats.
The food seems a bit excessive.
But I will say 1 litter box per cat seems reasonable. I had to have 2 when I had 2 cats. I could’ve survived with one - but I would’ve had to be scooping constantly to keep them happy.
The interesting thing is - I’ve always gathered that they shut the cam off to maintenence… You know, the people doing maintenance on the box. I’ve never seen a human on that cam ever. But strangely, I’ve never noticed the cam not currently loading either (unless it’s not obvious). Unless of course Invisible Man has litter box duty in their household. haha.
Sure enough I just saw a fluffy yellowy white one parked at the food dish. But they’re quick - the fluffer was gone by the time the image reloaded. hehe.
I’ve seen the reddish yellow fluffy one now a couple of times, but none of the others so far. My word, that’s a huge cat!
I must look at the wrong times. You’d think with all those cats in the house, I’d have seen a couple of them coming and going. But no. Mostly it’s just an empty room.
Nevertheless, I keep checking. Which is pretty funny. What is so fascinating about watching cats eat and poop? But here I sit with the cam window open.
Oh I know it… It’s bizarre.
Especially considering at home w/ my own cat (previously catS), I totally give my cat privacy. I just find it completely inappropriate to pay attention to my cat when she’s in the catbox.
But I think that’s part of the whole thing - that here this is on the internet!
Of course my dream is to set up a fishbowl cam.
I’ve yet to find a fishtank cam or fishbowl cam.
Though I haven’t looked in awhile. Maybe I’ll search again now.
Ooh! I’d watch a fish tank cam!

So, I went to the cam, and black was eating. Next shot—in the box. JPG on the way…
