Well I hope you can make time for me! I have been in my Martha mode a bit myself. The kids are making fun of me lol. It has to be something with me and NE I tell ya! The oldest is going to my little sis’s and the middle is going with the best friend down the street from you. So that only leaves the young one at home this weekend I think E can handle it, maybe.
I can always play the guilt card if I have to. He starts work on Monday. He will be working from 9Am to 8PM Mon- Thurs, and 6PM on Fri and Sat.
I will have no life lol.

There are those who inherited the recessive allele of the cleaning gene.  I’m definitely homozygous recessive.

I wish the urge to clean would hit me.  Can you bottle some of that?  I’ll pay shipping…

About once a month or so, I completely tear down and rebuild my home office space.  (A generous term for a corner of the basement.) It’s been over two months, I think.  I’m vastly overdue. 

So are you a “pitch it” or “file it” kind of cleaner?

Oh, I really, really, really hate filing. I’ve yet to find a filing system that’s totally painless. But I’m working on it.

My first step in cleaning is to take a large trash bag with me through the room I’m cleaning. For stuff that just needs to go. I’m ruthless in that regard. If it’s a choice between filing it and pitching it, guess which one has the edge?

The second step is taking my basket around the same room. If it REALLY needs to be filed, it goes in the basket. If it needs to be put away somewhere else, it goes in the basket. If I’m just not quite sure, it goes in the basket. Then I put the basket on the dining room table for later.

Then I can clean without tripping over stuff. Vacuuming and mopping goes so much better when there is nothing on the floor but floor. And I can dust without having to move little piles of stuff around. I am a Swiffer duster devotee. Makes it much more fun.

I attack the filing/put away basket in little chunks. Every time I pass by it, I take a couple of items out and put them where they belong. Takes a day or two, but it’s mostly painless—a minute or two to put something where it belongs doesn’t qualify as “work” or “cleaning.” Naturally, the paper stuff is the last to go. Because it has to be filed. Ick.

And, of course, when I don’t have to wade through clutter or move stuff around, it’s a whole lot easier to do the big jobs...like washing down the walls or even cleaning out the cupboards.

Of course, it would be better if I’d do the trash bag and basket routine every other day or so… ;) But I’m gaining on it.

N, you have the most organized piles of paper clutter that I’ve ever seen. Your office floor is amazingly organized. See...right brain in action. Wall length shelving would be a great deal for you. Same filing system, just off the floor. ;)
