Well, I don’t mean to be flip, but where in the world can you move to escape the kind of devastation this guy is talking about?
I thought it was interesting that this particular guy was one that the Bushies lobbied long and hard to get into a slot on the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (and the previous representative was sent packing) because of his moderate views.
Sounds like he blindsided the Bush Admin with this one. Maybe they should listen to him. When pigs fly or the ice age cometh, I suppose.
Some days I think we’re just doomed no matter what. It’s not a matter of if, but when and how.
No, Linkmeister, I’ve never read Johnny Got His Gun?, but I’ll put it on my list. But, really, if All Quiet on the Western Front doesn’t cure a person of war lust, not much could. Except, perhaps, spending time on the front lines.
War is a last resort, bred of a terrible lack of imagination, insight, and diplomacy. Else it’s a choice of diseased minds.

Have you ever read Johnny Got His Gun? It’s even more stridently anti-war than its fellow WW I novels, All Quiet on the Western Front and A Day in the life of Ivan Denisovich, and the theme is the same as the essay.
