Large city. Close to NYC and DC, but maybe off the radar. And Boston has been a target before, if only in terms of being a place where terrorists have been a known presence. After all, two of the planes that were hijacked on 9/11 were from Logan Airport. Maybe they’ve found some security hole in Boston?

I hope they plug that hole up quickly. I assume there is something worrying enough going on behind the scenes for the govs of MA and NH to come back from the Inaugural festivities in DC. That’s not something Romney would miss unless he was dragged back kicking and screaming. Not feeling real secure here.

Some, but probably not all, of the 9/11 Logan hijackers cleared security earlier that morning in Portland ME.

If I were cynical, I’d imagine Karl Rove cackling about how, even after all the ludicrous color scheming by Ridge et al., it’s still easy as pie to work up a bit of fear-mongering.  And that it’s especially delicious to do so in the hometown of your defeated opponent.

If this originated from the Department of Homeland Security, then I could be extremely cynical. It sounds as if they were bypassed altogether in this situation.

But speaking of Rove...I heard an interview with him this morning. The illustrious Juan Williams interviewed him and I might classify it as a slightly hostile interview...on Rove’s part. Rove is cold, cold, cold. And clearly believes that bipartisanship is for wimps and they have no intention of even pretending. Mandates are mandates, after all. I am not even sure he would melt in hell.

Also agree, sounds like pay back time, come Monday you will not be able to find anything about it, like it never happened.

Why was the public told that much?  I mean, are you meant to evacuate?  Are you meant to start reporting any activities by Asians or Arabs that you think are suspicious?  Or did they make it public to divert the scheme, figuring they won’t do anything in Boston now that they’ve been fingered?  (Which this creates an issue in security itself - considering won’t those terrorists just go somewhere else or at least just disappear?)

To be honest, the surprising part to me is that terrorists would need any help getting across the border from Mexico.

They just want you scared, that is all. Blue state, Kerry’s home town, that’s why Boston. Elsewhere (in Left I on the News I think) you can read that the whole thing is allegedly based on an _anonymous_ tip thrown over a fence. That’s it for source. So ponder: with Bush in charge, genuine terrorists with no connection to him can indeed get in, but all the panic-mongering about that never mentions why enemies of the USA didn’t do this decades ago. Well, now they have even more motive I guess. Or, genuine terrorists with lots of ties to the Bush machine can be _let_ in and allowed to go to selected targets. Or they can just make stuff up to keep us guessing. Or panicky idiots can make it up for them. Personally I ignore all alleged terrorist threats; someday either one will turn out true or a totally unpredicted one will. If it makes you feel any better, I figure a Rovian target would be the Bay Area before Boston; out west here we were not touched directly by 9/11 and we have remained unruly, I suppose someone with a theocratic mentality thinks we are due for smiting and it would not be Muslims who are most likely to think that. So if San Francisco goes up in a blast while Barbara Boxer is visiting and Dianne Feinstein isn’t, I know who _my_ suspect #1 will be. But Arnold still gets to appoint any replacement senators. I wonder which party he’ll favor?

The story more or less fell off the radar. Oh there are occassional hmmms and uhhhs in the media, but not much more.

Apparently one of the ‘suspects’ is currently incarcerated in California and has been for several months. Unrelated charges.

Kind of a stone cold story at the moment.

I guess I’m not surprised. I probably should ratchet my cynicism up another notch or two.
