Cider Press Hill

Wishing you a...

Merry Christmas! My wishes for your heart’s desires, happiness, and contentment today and through the next year.

There is a happy glow going on in this house. The festival of paper tearing and jumping up and down with glee has passed now. I truly don’t expect to see the lad for the rest of vacation. I spoil him a wee bit, but it is so much fun. That is one of my heart’s pleasures. So now he is entombed in his room with a complement of new video games, his wireless headphones, and the item that I particularly love...an atomic clock that projects time and temps on the ceiling at night plus a built in barometer for weather forecasting and outside temperature signal along with the date and day. The kind of thing that makes a gadget geek go all soft in the knees. Oh and an electric razor, too. I had to work practicality in there someplace. ;)

As for me...there’s a new Krups expresso, capuccino, latte maker parked on my kitchen counter. Along with a pound of Italian Roast to help me practice. Man, my own lattes. I wonder how long it will take me to learn how to turn out a good one. I can’t think of anything I’d rather practice with.  Well, unless perhaps it’s the itty bitty digital pen cam. Surreptitious snapping to commence soon. A couple of lovely candles and a tin of English toffees to help set the atmosphere for my guilty pleasure Jude Devereaux novel, too.

Even the dogs and cats scored new toys and chews. Stinky, however, much preferred the wadded up balls of wrapping paper. But that was after he delighted us with leaping into the piles of paper with a kitten’s abandon. There’s a cat who hasn’t forgotten how to have a ball with just the basics. It might have been the catnip talking, though.

But most of all, it has just been a joy to have a leisurely Christmas Eve and Christmas morning with the lad who is the absolute light of my life. A lovely dinner shared and then the last minute secret stocking stuffing and a couple of Christmas movies in front of the fire last night. And this morning, there was still the child’s excitement in his face. I hope he never loses that.

Later this afternoon I believe he will be off and running to dispense gifts to his best buds. Tomorrow there will be time spent at a friend’s house before he leaves for a couple of days. Time for me to put the house back in order and learn the mechanics of latte making. I should be pretty wired for the next couple of days as caffeine courses through my bloodstream...more so than usual.

It has been...perfect.

Wishing that for you, too.
