Cider Press Hill

No. It's a good word.

I had a temper tantrum today. It’s a rare sight, but I really let loose. And the lad rolled on the floor laughing over it. Why would I have a temper tantrum? It all started when he came home from school and asked if I wanted the good news or the bad news first.

Bad news, please.

The track coach has decided that there will be practice every morning (except Christmas, bless his heart) at 8:00AM sharp. No excuses.

During vacation. It was a meteoric flash that sent me right out into extreme orbit. NO! It’s VACATION! We do not do 7:30 wake up during vacation. No. No. No. No. NO!!!

Yes, this is the coach who is ready for lunch at 8:00 in the morning. He is an extreme morning person who rises daily at 3:00AM. He’s in bed by 8:00PM every night. He’s not normal, either.

After my little spate of shrieking and pounding on things, the lad asked if I wanted the good news now.

Ok, hit me with it.

“I told the coach that I’m going away for the vacation. Technically, true...I’ll be gone for a couple of days. But I’m coming back early and going reclusive. I’m not leaving the house until school starts again. I need the sleep. I need the down time. I just need to chill big time.”

It appears that he has also cleared his work schedule competely. He has totally cleared the decks. He’s free, free, free for an entire week. And boy does he need it. That kid has been burning the candle at both ends for 3 straight months, rarely getting more than 4 hours of sleep at night.

So, while I should point out that he shouldn’t have done what he did, who would I be kidding if I did? Instead, I said, “GREAT!” Works for him, works for me. I’m tired of having our vacations regulated by other people. This one belongs to no one but us. So there.
