Cider Press Hill

Not surprised, but...

Mark and Amanda are going to go up for a second look at a house in Maine on Monday. They’ve had enough. I would like to beg them to stay, but if I was in their position, I’d do the same thing. They were supposed to be renting with an option to buy. But that has suddenly changed, too. And the landlord owes them a couple of thousand in repairs they’ve done to the house. It just never stops.

That scares me a little. I hope, if they really do leave, that the next tenants are as good. If not, things could go south really fast.

Meanwhile, I have several sections of spent fence in my yard. Mark said he’d do his best to get the landlord to do something with them. I suspect that if I tell him to dispose of the fencing first before I’ll pay him what I owe him for the new fence, it’ll disappear a lot faster. I could hire someone to take it away, but I’d never get a penny from the LL for it. So I’m not inclined to do that.

This is becoming a problem. It will get worse if M&A move. This was just not very good news.

But the fence looks great! Mark replaced mine out front this afternoon, too. They are such good, good people.

I’d like to compensate them for their good neighborliness and the help they’ve given me with this fence deal. Think maybe a gift certificate for a really nice dinner out would be appropriate? Somehow it doesn’t seem like enough, though.
