I notice Terry has been getting most of the press lately but I was curious if ol’ Stinky was still a member of the family? I have a similar situation here. About a month ago a rather studly looking gentleman I call “Tom” showed up on my deck. I made the mistake of feeding him and well… He lives in my woodpile and appears quite healthy but I lose sleep over him on cold nights. I’m tempted to take him to the vet for a checkup, shots, and “the cut” but I’m afraid my other two cats are not as fond of him as I am. What to do?
If you are pondering the question that seriously, Phillip, you have probably already answered it and acting on it is only a matter of days or weeks away.
It’s the worrying on cold nights that’ll get you in the end.
The other cats will adjust after a period (2-3 months, probably) of hissing and snarling at each other. They get used to each other. Then even start liking each other, once they’ve sorted out their pecking order. Every now and then the fur still flies around here, but it appears to be more for show than substance. That usually occurs after a hard play session.
Stinky is doing just fine. Hale and hearty and the top cat. Abbie doesn’t necessarily agree and she still puts up a good front, but she quietly acquiesces when he asserts his first dibs on the food bowl.
He has never shown the slightest interest in going back outside. In fact, whenever I open the door, when he is anywhere in the vicinity, he turns tail and runs. He is a happy retiree who spends his days and nights growing rather rotund while sleeping in happy luxury, stretched out on my comforter. I’m so glad we adopted him.
He is a happy fellow, a gentleman in all respects, and full of gratitude and affection. On his terms, of course, but he grows ever more tolerant of being cuddled and petted. Now, on occasion, he even asks to be petted and held. He likes to be close to his family. Adopting him was definitely a success for us.
I think the next step for Terry is to try this experiment with a lower grade of beer/ale. Do they still make Narragansett?
I think they do. None has ever passed my lips though. ;)
Most dogs like the taste of beer, don’t they? I’ve read and heard that, but I know that Terry has never come close to having any in this house. So either the smell is enticing and she smelled some on the bottles or she has had it before and remembers the whole operation of how to get it out of a bottle. That kind of fascinates me. She seemed to know that she had to get the cap off in order to get at what was inside.
Now that she has dog spit all over the necks of these bottles...that’s a real incentive to crack one open....
Oh heck, she just picks those up in her mouth and bites the cans. Works like a charm. She likes her Pepsi.
And super sticky messy, too!
