I’m required to use IE at work ... it’s the only browswer on the corporate network. I saw it happening, though I never realized it was IE’s problem and not my own system’s. Over on our other system (a WAN covering all the companies like mine), we have both IE and Netscape, but most of the web apps are IE-specific (don’t really work under Netscape).
Like cyn, I just scrolled up and went on with life.
Back in the old days before I used CSS to style my pages, the anchor tags worked fine with IE. Anchor tags and tables are compatible. But sticking anchor tags in the middle of a page styled with CSS seems to confuse IE.
I’ve looked all over to see if there was a solution and all I’ve found is a lot of complaining that Miscrosoft never fixed this bug even though they’ve been aware of it for a few years.
I’ve run across two sites that use a combination of CSS and tables and the anchor tags work fine on those two sites. I’m not quite sure why. There have even been java scripts written to overcome the problem. But for this site, I’m not inclined to get that fancy or complicated. All this does, really, is make me hate IE a little more.
Maybe I’m completely wrong here, but it seems to me that writing code specifically for IE is just bad writing. What makes me think that is because over the past year, I’ve seen my bank and utilities go from having IE specific sites to new sites that work just fine with all the browsers. And they claim that their sites are much more secure now, too. It has something to do with not relying on Active-X...and I don’t know exactly what Active-X does, but it appears that complex sites can be built without relying on it.
Maybe eventually Microsoft will bring their browser into the 21st century or it will finally just get run over by the herd and die.
Remember when so many personal sites rudely suggested that you should only look at their site with IE?
Well, I only ever used IE for a total of 6 months.
So you can imagine what I say!

ahhhh, not to worry, once I figured out what was happening, I just scrolled up and I suspect everyone else does, too. Don’t stress over it, we can deal.....or switch to another browser...(I still use IE cause some of the others do not work with my online games!!)
