To waste, to destroy, our natural resources, to skin and exhaust the land instead of using it so as to increase its usefulness, will result in undermining, in the days of our children, the very prosperity which we ought by right to hand down to them amplified and developed. ~Theodore Roosevelt

The lad just left for New York City, with the family, for the long holiday weekend. This year they’re driving, being somewhat jumpy about airplanes during peak holiday travel. I certainly do not discourage that attitude.
So, here I am not exactly feeling all sweetness and light about this. It would be nice to have my lad home for Thanksgiving once in a while. But I don’t want to deny him the enjoyment of his cousins and New York. Sometimes choices are sucky. Still, it made me happy to see how excited he was about going and listening to all his plans. He loves New York and, well, staying at the Waldorf-Astoria would make me excited, too. Oh yeah.
I’ll just take a few moments to feel sorry for myself and then I’ll start to pitch in to vacation projects. I very much doubt that I’ll finish them all before the lad returns and after tomorrow passes it’ll be like any other weekend. But I still wish he was home.
